German Buildings Research and a Discussion of Commissioning for Low Energy Buildings

Mr. Stefan Plessar
Technical University Braunschweig- Institute for Building and Solar Technology
"German Architecture Engineering for Energy Efficient Office Buildings"
In recent years a lot of research has been done in the field of low energy concepts and clima design of office buildings. The presentation will illustrate the design and planning process as well as monitoring results of two low energy offices: a technically complex institute building and a low energy demonstration building with the latest building technology like natural night-time ventilation, concrete core cooling, energy piles, innovative shading systems, photovoltaic, solar cooling and fuel cell technology.

Mr. Robert Himmler
Technical University Braunschweig- Institute for Building and Solar Technology
"Low Energy Offices in Germany Research Results from the Energie Forum Berlin and Computer Science Centre Braunschweig
A large federal project on energy efficient office buildings, EVA was launched in response to the new European Directive on Energy Efficiency in Buildings.   EVA analyses some of the most innovative office buildings in Germany to evaluate their performance regarding energy efficiency and user comfort in operation and to detect further potential. This presentation will give a short summary of the German legislative steps on energy efficiency of buildings and presents first results of the EVA project, namely: successful concepts, metering-data and recommissioning experiences.

Mr. Oliver Baumann

Ebert Engineering, Munich
"Optimization of Automation Functionalities in Buildings and HVAC Systems Using Simulation Models and Energy Mgmt Systems"
Building automation systems (BAS) and building energy management systems (BEMS) have been used in modern edifices for the last 2 decades. These systems measure, process, and monitor a huge amount of data to operate the building and systems more or less properly.  The presentation shows the methodology and tools used for Operation Diagnostics and Operation Prognostics, as well as the results of several case studies.
